Why Can’t New Zealand Make Something This Creative?

I’ve long been an admirer of the Singaporeans. For the modern day equivalent of Greek city states, the Singaporeans have no lawrels to rest upon.

They’re not endowed with mineral resources like Australia. They don’t have old money like Europe. They weren’t endowed with fertile lands like New Zealand. And they don’t have abundent sources of energy like New Zealand has.

All they have are themselves, their creativity and their raw human talent.

And they make this:

Singapore Jewel Changi Airport Rain Vortex

This is an attraction in their main international airport: the first interaction the world has with the country. The Rain Vortex funnels rain from the airport roof and turns it into an indoor fountain that waters an indoor forest.

And now it’s an international tourism attraction.

By the way… this is their equivalent of Auckland Airport.

Like I say – something amazing from nothing.

New Zealand always feels like it rests on its scenic landscape or its Maori culture lawrels to stake its place in the world.

The Singaporeans own us in how awesomely creative they are.
