Testing, public sector style

So, I’m sitting at the Lower Hutt COVID testing center, waiting to get a test.

I’ve been here for over two hours now.

If this was Singapore, I could have picked up a test at a street vending machine.

The government coordinating this is a complete mess, and waste of time.

The reason for the long time delay turned out not to be related to volume: some numpty changed the traffic cones around (why?!? They worked just fine yesterday, didn’t they?) and only one queue was feeding into the testing tents.

And nobody noticed for the 1:30 I was in the car park for.

The people doing the testing were lovely, but I did wonder whether all four of them were needed.

Far from a smooch slick act. This is not going to scale when the number of cases explodes.

Update: driving out, the end to end COVID testing process took 2 hours, 30 minutes.
