It was very tragic to hear this bad news in December 2025:
Gosh … as long as I can remember, Leigh has been in mine and my family’s life as more than a friend, but a brother. The Rout brothers mimicked the Hogans: four brothers similar in age – Brent, Leigh, Nigel and Tyrone, like Greg, Adam, Marcus and James.
Both of our family’s were very close, and I met Leigh through Adam where both of them shared a penchant for the wahines, and were the teenage Lothario’s of Nelson in the 1980’s, both of them fishermen at one time, and both of them motorbikers.
Leigh had a good soul and a kind heart. He would give you the shirt of his back without hesistation, and if asked to help bury a body, he would be the guy reaching first for the shovel and a cigarette.
Leigh was very, very cool.
