The mental pressure is real

I had a horrible sleep last night, worrying about getting back on track for the Tour. I kept looking at my satellite location relative to everyone else’s and panicking about how far behind I am.

I might have gotten 3 hours sleep, max. All of the yoga breathing techniques in the world weren’t going to crowd this anxiety out of my head.

I emailed Kaipara Cruises about getting onto their Friday evening sailing. There schedule shows no Saturday sailings, and confirms the Tour guide comments that they don’t sail on Sundays.

The logistics means I need to be in Dargaville tonight. I’ll use this panicky energy to get me there.

The painful mental pressure of cycling to a schedule is real.

UPDATE:

My new friend Gulzar came through for me this morning, and picked me up from Kerikeri and took me to Broadwood. I restarted the Tour at 7:30, and made it to Rawene in under 2 hours.

I’m definitely fitter. Also, nod to Danny Hilary. When I was doing the Grape ride with him, he taught me to always have lollies sitting between your gum and teeth, and slowly suck then as they melt. Sounds icky, but the slow release of sugars wards off fatigue. Big ups!

Finally, I’m confirmed on the Kaipara Harbour ferry for tomorrow. That’s a biggie because it doesn’t run Saturday and Sunday, and I’d need to burn another day and another 100km to make up the distance.

The Gods are smiling on me again 😌
