Unobtrusive and very interesting

More on my current fade of reading signs.

Recently, I was working on my boat over at Evan’s Bay yacht club, and I came across this sign:

Piece of history: Wellington’s first “airport”

In the early days of flight, landed airports were the exception instead of the rule when it came to flying. More often, planes were amphibious, like this TEAL (Tasman Empire Airways Limited) plane shown in the above photo.

In Wellington, TEAL planes flying into Wellington landed at what is now the Evan’s Bay yacht club.

Here’s an interesting link about the history of TEAL from the TEAL Motel in Gisborne, run by Stewart Haynes.

This superbly informative little sign was stuck on the side of the clubhouse here:

Not given to ostentatiousness

OH, OK GO ON THEN…

For those who want to check out my boat 🙂
