The government’s Three Waters reform is wiffy. Seriously wiffy that not all looks as it seem, sometimes milk masquerades as cream.
Phil Goff, current Auckland Mayor, ex-labour party leader and a long term pinko-socialist isn’t towing the party line over the government’s Three Waters reform. I can imagine this is to the greatest consternation of the government. Why?
Because Auckland Council will contribute 97% of the assets and only get a 40% say in the operation of one of the new water authorities. They will have the same influence as the Maoris on the governance of the new authority, despite having stumped up with all of the authority’s assets.
The government’s reasons for the reforms are explicitly about water quality and the mass gastroenteritis outbreak in Havelock North in 2016. So why bypass democracy and give Maoris an equal say over Auckland’s water? Two words: He Paupau
So ex-labour party leader, Phil Goff, who is a 110% labour party man, goes against his former colleagues who he used to lead.
It is probably fair to say that this isn’t the labour party he used to know. This labour party is in a completely different league of zealot than he ruled over.
