Bad luck beeches me!
I’m in Broadwood, and my right pedal had come out. The thread the pedal guys into is destroyed.
Through luck and kindness of strangers, Mr Singe, Monty and Danny have made a “fix” for my pedal. It’s thread is well and truly rooted, by Danny has drilled through the crankshaft, attached screws and glued everything in.
If this works I can thank Danny Reed of Performance Garages, Broadwood.
I’ve also signed up for Facebook (dammit) because there’s a Tour of Aeotearoa – General Forum where there’s lots of helpful people and advice.
I’m hoping it’s going to get me to Darkeville.
Tonight, I’m going to aim to get to Awatere.
The generosity of strangers never ceases to make me proud of the random people you meet in New Zealand.
CHANGE OF PLAN:
The fix lasted about 1 km. Good effort, and thanks for trying Broadwood.
I’m getting a ride to Kerikeri tonight, where there’s a cycle shop.
It turns out the failure was my fault – the pedals are left hand / right hand specific, and I put the wrong pedals on each side.
Shout out goes to Glen Ogle (https://www.linkedin.com/in/glen-ogle-9a23b3100?originalSubdomain=nz) for this good advice:
it was put in the wrong side that’s a left pedal so left hand thread into the right side crank
Let’s see how long this takes to fix. Broadwood is 74km away. If I lose 2 days so be it. But if I give up now, or cop out and head to Auckland, I think I’ll regret it.
